Traumatic Brain Injury

Disability Rights New Jersey protects the rights of individuals with traumatic brain injury in the community and in-patient settings by conducting monitoring and investigations and by responding to abuse and neglect. Using a team-based approach, we empower individuals with brain injury and their family members to access the services they need in healthcare, special education, employment, and assistive technology. We strive to ensure the well-being and equality of individuals with brain injuries.

How We Help

Education & Outreach – we provide advice, counsel, information/referral, instruction in self-advocacy.

Monitoring & Investigations – we monitor facilities where individuals with brain injury reside and conduct investigations of abuse and neglect.

Legal Representation – we provide direct legal representation in certain cases.

Systemic Activities – we educate policymakers about the needs of people with brain injury.

Around 175,000 New Jersey residents live with a disability caused by a traumatic brain injury. Although every person’s experience is different, a brain injury can be a life changing event. If you, or a family member with a brain injury have questions about your rights, treatment, or access to services we encourage you to contact us. If we are not able to assist you, we will make every effort to refer you to another source of help.

Disability Rights NJ serves people with traumatic brain injury through the Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury program, authorized by the Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 1996 (Public Law 104-166) as amended.
