9:15-10:00 – Keynote: Charyl Yarbough Serving Our Youth: Where We’ve Been and How We Move Forward Together

10:15-11:30 – Breakout Session

  • Supporting and Building Youth Voice in the Transition Process (supported decision making)

    • Presented by SPAN and Disability Rights New Jersey
    • This session will help describe what self-advocacy is and how to develop skills at any age, and provide ways that parents/families can support youth voices. It will discuss the benefits of self-advocacy at the IEP table and beyond, and introduce attendees to supported decision making and how to help the youth let their voice be heard.
  • Yes, Your Child Can Work! Preparing for work and Introduction to Social Security Basics

    • Presented by The Arc of NJ and New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities
    • This workshop will discuss different employment options available to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and hands—on tools for preparing students for employment and an overview of SSI and SSDI benefits.
  • Empowering Transitions: Resources and Support for Individuals with Disabilities

    • Presented by The Boggs Center and Center for Independent Living
    • The transition from school to adulthood can be challenging, but with careful planning and the right resources, individuals with disabilities can thrive. This presentation offers practical guidance and support, highlighting the crucial role of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) as well as valuable transition resources and timelines from The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development. Furthermore, this presentation underscores the power of informed choice. Professionals, parents, and individuals will learn about the available options, empowering them to make choices that build a foundation for a fulfilling life after graduation.
